The Defiance Airport Authority and The County Commissioners Office are pleased to announce two types of hunting allowed on the airport property.

• Archery Hunting (North Woods – consistent with DNR seasonal Dates)
• Nuisance Permit (Airport Deer Management Program – Year-round)

Archery Hunting

Archery deer hunting is permitted by obtaining a permission slip from the County Commissioners Office. To participate in this program the hunter is required to attend a safety briefing and comply with property specific requirements. Dates are regulated by the airport authority and the 2025 / 2026 season will be a “Doe Only” permission slip.

Nuisance Permit

The Airport Authority maintains a deer management program aiming to prevent accidents involving airplanes and wildlife (specifically deer). This program is an annual program and limited to 5 individuals a year. There are specific qualifications, requirements, and restrictions when participating in the program.

Qualifications / Requirements:
This program requires the use of a rifle and each participant must qualify (demonstrate proficiency) performing a 5 shot group, at a maximum of 1MOA, at 300yds.

• Carry a valid hunting license
• Subject to a background check from the ODNR
• Pass an Airport Safety Program
• Strict adherence to the Defiance Airport Authority Deer Management Rules (Requirements / Restrictions)
